His focus and field of study was Business Administration and Economics. While attending Morehouse, he was active in the Student Government and was Chief Justice of the Student Court. He was also a player on the varsity football team. After graduation, Rev. Martin secured employment with the Allstate Insurance Company and was the Customer Service Manager and Account Agent for 13 years.
After accepting the call of Jesus Christ to the Ministry of Christianity in October of 1979, Rev. Martin was licensed by Dr. Roswell F. Jackson and the Mount Calvary Baptist Church family of Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1981, Rev. Martin entered Carver Bible College in Atlanta and majored in Theology. His dedicated work and intellect proved rewarding for he graduated cum laude in 1983 with a Bachelor of Theology Degree. He was offered and held a teaching position at the Carver Bible Institute. Rev. Martin's official pastoral assignments include the Shoal Creek Baptist Church of Locust Grove, Georgia and the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church (April 1986) of Augusta, Georgia. In May of 1995, he received his Doctorate of Divinity from the United Theological Seminary in Monroe, Louisiana.
Presently, under Pastor Martin's excellent leadership, Antioch is experiencing a holistic ministry that is spirit-filled. More than 30 ministries have been established and/or reorganized under his spiritual guidance. These include Health Care, Kitchen, TAG (Touching All Generations Women's Ministry), FLY (Faith-Led Youth), CLIC (Children Living In Christ), MAC (Men of Antioch Church), Transportation, ASK (Antioch Senior Kare), Food Pantry, Athletic, Tape, Radio, and ETF (Evangelistic Task Force). Also under Pastor Martin's guidance we work with Habitat For Humanity; have developed a tutorial program; have structured new member orientation, discipleship classes, and fellowship; and we attend and sponsor outreach and training workshops. Our 10:45 a.m. worship service is broadcast every Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. by WKZK Gospel Radio, and every Friday at 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. by WAAW Shout Radio.
Pastor Martin's emphasis on the need for spiritual growth and development through the teaching of God's Word, has resulted in dramatically increased attendance at Bible Study and Church School. So much so, that a separate session has been established for youth and another for children. In addition, the Church School curriculum has been expanded to accommodate the participation of all age groups of the Church.
Under Pastor Martin's leadership Antioch has grown spiritually (through meaningful worship and increased love and fellowship), numerically (with over 1,191 new members joining our flock), and structurally (with the addition of church signs, handicap ramps, parking lot, two vans, and extensive renovations to the Educational Building and the Sanctuary from October 2002 – April 2003). Numerous church officials have been installed including 24 deacons, 7 trustees, and 10 licensed ministers. The implementation of a Capital Fund Campaign (formerly AFAC - A Future Antioch Church, designed to contribute towards the enlargement of the Church structure) is in progress and finances have increased more than 500%. In addition, Pastor Martin is extensively involved in local, state, national, and international activities; and he organized and is President of Antioch Ministries, Incorporated (AMI). Presently, this ministry has an active revitalization program that has purchased more than 85 properties for development, and has restored and renovated over 4o multi-family properties. AMI has completed 31 new residences, and has qualified the owners to take possession. This ministry has so flourished until it now requires and employs a full time executive director and staff. In 2012 AMI was relocated to its brand new, state-of-the-art, two-story office building, and currently incubates several businesses including its own Sub Stop Sandwich Shop.
Apart from actively participating in civic and religious activities in the City of Augusta and the State of Georgia, Pastor Martin is former president of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Augusta, and was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Augusta Housing Authority. Pastor Martin was also nominated to the National Black Ministers Council, a distinguished honor for which he is humbly grateful.
Pastor Martin is currently President of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, and serves on the Executive Board. He is the former Director of the Ministers Division of the State Congress of Christian Education. He frequently conducts workshops, seminars, and revivals throughout the nation, and trains church leaders to face boldly the new challenges of a changing world and the Ways of a changeless Christ. Pastor Martin continually strives for a better church and community through Christ Jesus. This is evident through the boundless energy he displays, and his enthusiasm for the growth and productivity of Antioch Baptist Church, and for all of mankind everywhere.
